TEAMKP AT THE TOOWOOMBA TWO DAY (02 - 03 FEBRUARY 2013)
Presented jointly by the Toowoomba Cycling Club, Club Bikeline and Highfields Rollers- the Toowomba Two Day featured 4 TeamKP riders competing in the event with a 3 member support crew.
A great course saw all our club members compete strongly against other riders in a series of fast paced, challenging events. Day one was a one race criterium on the new Toowoomba criterium circuit. Day two was a three race elimination format on the same course in different configurations with the last 1/3 of riders to cross the line eliminated in each race until it was a handful of riders left to fight for the placings.
Day one was raced in tough conditions, with hot, dry and extremely strong winds causing riders to run for the spares area to retrieve low profile aluminium rims to keep their bikes on the course. After a strong effort, both Ash and Cam were dropped from the main bunch to finish the day riding solo around the course.
Day two of racing was under much improved conditions and the team was bolstered by the Arrival of PeterM and IanC fresh from racing in Brisbane the day before. A few close calls during the day (notably Joshua King from Taylor Cycle's infamous tumble in the middle of the group) made the racing technical and challenging for TeamKP. PeterM made a strong showing to survive through to round 2 of the C grade race, but was eliminated on the line in a tough bunch sprint. IanC, Ash and Cam lined up for B grade, with Ash eliminted after round 1, Ian eliminated after round 2 and Cam through to round 3 to race for a place in the final. A tough and tactical final race followed, with Cam doing the majority of the chasing work for a small main bunch after a solo break by a Toowoomba rider in the opening laps. Although he worked hard for it, Cam couldn't hold on for the bunch sprint and finished just off the podium in the final.
It was a great weekend of racing, and TeamKP thanks the combined clubs of Toowoomba for hosting such a well run and interesting schedule of racing.
